Unemployment in the Framingham area fell significantly in August, with the local area rate dropping by 1.6 percentage points compared to the same month the year before. The unemployment rate for the Framingham metropolitan division was 2.8% in August, up slightly from 2.7% in July but down from 4.4% in August 2021, according to data released Tuesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. There were 158,272 members of the labor force in the Framingham area last month, down a tiny bit from 158,565 the year before.
